When I paint I sink myself into the mood and feelings of a person, and I love bringing that to life on the canvas. I also feel that each figure has a unique texture and structure. I find it deeply pleasing to explore the texture and design and colours of a figure, and to bring it to life on the canvas.
The people I paint often have a story to communicate, like James Crumley, and his world-weary eyes. I love Crumley’s books and in the painting I did of him I wanted to capture something of Crumley’s perspective, the way he views the world.
Lately I’ve been completely absorbed in capturing skateboarders in motion. Their movements are an incredible combination of grace and power. Watch them closely - they move like dancers.
